OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAM

 ESTABLISHMENT

Mersin University Mersin Vocational School Property Protection and Security Department Occupational Health and Safety (Distance Education) Associate Program; According to the decision of the Council of Higher Education dated 11.05.2016 and numbered 75850160-104.01.02.04-27835, in the 2016-2017 academic year, our Vocational School started education with a quota of 100 students.

GOAL
 In our country, with the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331, which was published in the Official Gazette dated 30 June 2012 and numbered 283391, the employment of personnel (occupational safety experts, occupational physicians and other health personnel) in all workplaces regardless of the public and private sector Considering the need for educated and qualified individuals trained in this field as a result of the legislative changes made by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security in the field of occupational health and safety in recent years and the continuous developments,

1. Able to follow the legal regulations and technological developments related to occupational accidents and diseases that may be exposed in working life,

2. Able to make the necessary arrangements, prepare risk assessment and emergency action plans depending on the changing legislation in the field of work,

3. Having sufficient knowledge and skills in teamwork and effective communication,

4. Acting in accordance with professional ethical rules,

5. Responsibility awareness and analytical thinking power developed,

It aims to raise individuals.

Studies are carried out to reduce occupational accidents and diseases in the world and in our country. In parallel with technological developments, there is a need for new legal regulations and qualified professionals who have completed their education in this field. This need further increases the importance given to the field of occupational health and safety.

Practices in the field of occupational health and safety in our country should be carried out by professionals and trained professionals. Thus, it is thought that success, continuity and permanence can be achieved in the field of occupational health and safety.

The implementation of the program through distance education provides the following advantages for individuals who want to receive education in this field but cannot continue formal education due to various reasons:

1. Individuals who work in the public sector and want to work as an occupational safety specialist in their institution or institutions,

2. Individuals who want to have a diploma while in active business life,

3. Public officials who want to raise their seniority,

4. Those who think that they are late for formal and dual education at the university,

5. Students who want to have two diplomas while completing their university education,

6.Students who want to take advantage of the right to pass without examination and enter business life after high school

7. Individuals who have completed their university education and want to get university education again,

8. Individuals in prisons,

9. For mothers and fathers who want to set an example for their children,

10. Individuals with physical disabilities.

ENTRY TERMS

In order to enroll in the program, it is necessary to have a high school diploma and to fulfill the conditions determined by ÖSYM in line with the relevant legislation of YÖK.

EDUCATION

Education in the Occupational Health and Safety Program is carried out in Turkish.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to obtain an associate degree in Occupational Health and Safety, students must successfully complete all of the compulsory and elective courses (a total of 120 ECTS) that they must take from the program and have completed their 30-day internship.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates who successfully complete the program are awarded a diploma in the field of occupational health and safety. Each of our students who receive the diploma gain the title of Occupational Health and Safety Technician. In addition, our graduates who receive their diploma are eligible to become Occupational Safety Specialists if they are successful in the occupational safety expertise exam organized by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services.

With the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331, it is obligatory to employ occupational safety specialists or to receive services in all workplaces, regardless of the number of workers employed by the public or private sector. Our students who graduate from the Occupational Health and Safety Program, in all institutions, organizations and enterprises, trade centers, high-rise buildings, schools in the form of universities and campuses, shopping centers and public centers, fire brigades, civil defense and similar emergency organizations, They can work as "Security Technician". In addition, they can work as "Occupational Safety Specialists" in all institutions and organizations if they are successful in the C class Occupational Safety Specialist exam administered by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services.
